How to Choose the Right Headset

With so many headsets out there which one's right for me?
Well it all depends upon what type of plane you fly. I have experience using all the
headsets I sell. I narrowed down my selection to the headsets I feel represent the
best value with superior functionality and comfort. (My two requirements as a pilot)
No need to overwhelm pilots with 25-30 headsets that all do the same thing. I've
filtered out the noise to make your selection easy! That's the difference at
PilotPeteSupplies..we help you shop and we only sell the top quality products...So
here's the 411 on headsets.
PLANTRONICS - Best for quiet cockpits. (MD88, Airbus.etc) All are extremely
comfortable and lightweight. The mic is not right in front of your face so you don't
need to move it to drink your coffee. (Like a bluetooth) The mic is highly sensitive but
filters out aircraft noise. It only offers passive noise reduction from soft earcups. We
sell the dual sided Plantronics MS260 or the single sided Plantronics MS250 and the
Plantronics MS200 with the earbud. These headsets won't break your budget. Comes
with a full Plantronics Warranty. (I currently use this on the MD88)
TELEX - Telex offers both passive and active noise reduction headsets. All are
lightweight and comfortable. The new Telex Airman 850 has active noise reduction
but no batteries are required! It uses aircraft power! I would rate the active noise
reduction as medium. I wouldn't recommend this model on extremely noisy cockpits
like the Shorts 360, Beech 1900 or all turboprops. Best for medium noisy cockpits like
the MD88 or the 737, 757, 767 etc. The Telex Airman 750 offers passive noise
reduction with earcups. Very lightweight and comfortable. Best for quiet cockpits like
the MD88. The Telex Airman 750 comes dual sided and single sided. ( I also use the
Telex Airman 850 on the MD88)
SENNHEISER - Best for the noisiest cockpits. (you know who you are). The models
I sell offer both active noise reduction through 2 AA batteries as well as passive
noise reduction with earcups. (My batteries lasted about 1 month). The Sennheiser
HMEC-25 KAS has the thicker comfortable earcups for more passive noise
reduction. The Sennheiser MHEC-45 KAS has a more open earcup which allows cross
cockpit communication. I've used this on the 737-800 with great results. The -25
works great with noisy turboprops. Both models come with a stereo button to control
the volume in either side of your ear. Excellent idea to improve cross cockpit comm.
without lifting the inside earcup off your ear.
NOTE: If you prefer a different model please let me know. I sell all models of
PLANTRONICS, TELEX, and SENNHEISER. I listed the ones that I believe are the best
fit for most pilots. No need to overwhelm you with over 25 models of headsets that all
do the same thing. I've picked the headsets with the best functionality and comfort.
And I've tested them all! Feel free to send me feedback. ..Pete
